Yoobin Shin

Research Intern

Yoobin is a graduate of the Department of Law at Sookmyung Women’s University, with a minor in Japanese Studies, and is currently based in Washington, D.C. as an intern at HRNK.

Her interest in North Korea developed during her year-long experience as a Unification Specialist under South Korea’s Ministry of Unification. During this time, she took courses on inter-Korean relations and wrote a research paper on the future direction of North–South relations. Through this experience, she became particularly interested in how information is controlled in North Korea and how this control affects human rights.

Yoobin believes that protecting North Korean human rights requires careful collection and analysis of information. She also sees cooperation with neighboring countries, especially Japan and China, as essential to understanding North Korea more clearly. With this in mind, she pursued a minor in Japanese Studies and studied as an exchange student in Tokyo, focusing on language skills and regional perspectives.

Through her internship at HRNK, Yoobin hopes to contribute to research that analyzes information on North Korea and supports efforts to protect and promote human rights.
