I left North Korea in 2001 and I arrived in the South Korea in 2007. Before coming South Korea, I expected to study, but in reality I couldn’t because I had to pay the broker who led me to South Korea. After working for one year, I could afford to study what I really wanted in an alternative school called a ‘Yeomeong School.’ I studied there from 2008 to 2010. After I finished elementary school, middle school, and high school, I came to Handong University in 2010. I have studied there for 5 semesters and came to Washington D.C. to study English.
At Handong University, I have served as president for one year of a student club, which prays for North Korea and studies North Korea. I received the grand prize from the South Korean government for writing a poem. Also while studying in Handong, I volunteered to help the elderly in a hospital and went to the China to work for an orphanage. I then visited Cambodia to examine several organizations, which work for human rights in Combodia.
In the future, I would like to establish an organization for orphans, education, freedom, policy, and human rights. I would also like to encourage orphans to find their own dreams. A small seed can bear much fruit. Evert person can be very valuable, no matter how small.
To have a dream is a wonderful thing.
