Suha Choi is an undergraduate student at Stanford University, pursuing a degree in International Relations and Classics. She is particularly interested in the geopolitical dynamics of East Asia and U.S. foreign policy toward the region. Additionally, she is deeply invested in examining the interplay between international security and human rights, especially in the context of authoritarian regimes.
Her interest in North Korea stems from her upbringing in South Korea, where she was exposed to extensive media coverage on national security issues regarding the North Korean regime but noticed relatively scarce attention paid to the human rights violations faced by North Korean civilians. This observation, combined with her academic studies in international relations, has driven her to explore the human rights issues in North Korea, an authoritarian regime that stands uniquely isolated in the international community. Through her work at HRNK and beyond, she aims to challenge the perception viewing North Korean human rights as a zero-sum game with nuclear security and to promote the understanding that these rights are a crucial aspect of universal human rights.
