Liz Cheek is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Conflict Management and International Economics at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). In 2013, she received her B.A. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania with a minor in Russian. The following August, she worked for Liberty in North Korea (LiNK) for a year, supporting the Rescue Teams Manager and representing LiNK in the Northeast region of North America, raising awareness about the ongoing human rights crisis in North Korea. While at SAIS, she continues to learn Korean and maintain a regional focus on East Asia. Moreover, no matter the course—International Law, Conflict Management, etc.—it is her goal to relate each subject to events in North Korea and offer appropriate policy recommendations to improve the human rights situation. Liz hopes to continue to develop her advocacy work for human rights in North Korea while working at HRNK. In particular, she hopes to do so by assisting in the production of policy recommendations and by producing her own research on developments within the country.
