Dr. Kim Dong-sik is a North Korea expert specializing in North Korean politics, intelligence operations, and inter-Korean relations, with experience related to North Korean external operations.

He previously served in the External Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Korean Workers’ Party from 1981 to 1995, where he gained direct insight into North Korea’s political and organizational structures.

Following his transition to South Korea, Dr. Kim worked as a North Korea analyst with the Republic of Korea Defense Security Command from 1999 to 2006. He later served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS) from 2008 to 2020, where he conducted research on North Korean politics, intelligence affairs, national security issues, and developments on the Korean Peninsula.

He earned a Ph.D. in North Korean Studies from the University of North Korean Studies and a Master’s degree in North Korean Studies from Kyungnam University.

He is the author of several books on North Korea’s political system and strategy toward South Korea, including Nobody Reported Me (2013), The Reality of North Korea’s South Korea Strategy (2013), and the two-volume South Korea Liberation War Project series (2025).

Dr. Kim currently serves as President of Korea Analysis & Strategy Consultancy (KAS) and hosts Kim Dong-sik TV, where he provides commentary and analysis on North Korean politics, security developments, and inter-Korean relations.
