Kate Bowers

Research Intern

Kate Bowers is an undergraduate student studying at Brigham Young University. She is double majoring in Public Health with an emphasis in epidemiology and Korean. She is very interested in international health and policy. After completing her bachelor’s degree, Kate hopes to attend graduate school and start a career focusing on lifetime service for those who are suffering from human rights abuses.

Before learning of HRNK, Kate spent 19 months as a volunteer missionary for her church in Seoul, Korea. During her time as a missionary, her interest in North Korean human rights grew after she met several North Korean defectors. After completing her time in Seoul, Kate attended a North Korean culture class and found that she was interested in continuing to study North Korea’s culture and policies.

As an intern, Kate is interested in researching more about population health and religious freedom. She further aims to learn how to best help those in need and pursue advocacy for human rights in North Korea.
