Ines Cattalin Fernande Bengochea is a French student pursuing her undergraduate degree in International Studies at Yonsei University in South Korea. After graduating, she will begin a Master’s degree in International Studies at Seoul National University, specializing in East Asia. Her senior thesis examines North Korea’s strategic use of the Universal Periodic Review through a constructivist lens.
Ines’s interest in North Korean human rights grew through her studies and community work in Seoul, where she has been involved with organizations such as the Database Center for North Korean Human Rights and PSCORE, supporting outreach, communications, and advocacy on the humanitarian situation on the Korean Peninsula. She has also held youth roles focused on peacebuilding and the Women, Peace & Security agenda, which deepened her interest in how human rights, gender, and security intersect in the region.
Through her internship at HRNK, Ines hopes to strengthen her research and analytical skills while contributing to the documentation and advocacy work that brings greater international attention to human rights violations in North Korea.
