Huiwon Yun finished her LL.M degree in International Legal Studies from American University (AU) in May, and received a first degree in law with a Samsung scholarship from SungKyunKwan University (SKKU) in 2015. She will complete her Juris Doctoral degree in February 2019 from SKKU University College of Law. She is planning to take New York bar exam in February 2018 and expects to practice law back and forth between the United States and South Korea. She has always been interested in human right issues in North Korea, so is very grateful to have an opportunity to participate in research at HRNK. While exploring her passion for this issue while pursuing her LL.M. degree at AU, she kept up her interest and knowledge of the issue through the Transnational Crimes seminar course. Her past research experience includes the Doing Business report, one publication for the World Bank Group, where she examined the issues regarding reform in the governance of corporations, and the regulation of related party transactions in South Korea. She worked as a legal intern at the Seoul Prosecutors Office in the Yangcheon District, Seoul, South Korea and at the Legal Research and Training Institute in Giheung-gu, Yongin, South Korea.
