Gia Yun is an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is pursuing a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Through her studies, she aims to explore the intricate interplay between theory and the economic factors influencing contemporary politics. Her passion for human rights is deeply rooted in her Korean heritage, as she reflects on the stark differences between North and South Korea—two nations that were once united. This personal connection has inspired her to advocate for meaningful solutions to human rights issues, particularly those affecting North Korea.
Gia’s interests were furthered through her coursework in sociology, legal studies, and international relations, with a special focus on international political economy. These studies have spurred her to consider the economic dimensions of political and human rights issues and their impact on the global stage. Through her work, she hopes to contribute to a deeper understanding and advocacy for human rights, finding ways to translate her theoretical knowledge into practical action.
Through her internship with HRNK, she hopes to gain a deeper and more first-hand understanding of North Korean human rights issues, as well as further her commitment to advocate for global justice and human dignity.
