Emily Spaugh is a graduate student at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. She is a Master of Public Affairs candidate with a concentration in International Policy and Development. Emily is also an Assistant Korean Instructor for the East Asian Language and Cultures department at IU.
Emily has been interested in North Korean human rights since 2013 when she first read about prison camps in North Korea. During her undergraduate degree, Emily studied Korean, became involved as a volunteer with Liberty in North Korea, and continued to do independent research on issues surrounding the Korean peninsula. Upon graduation, Emily moved to Geoje Island, South Korea to teach English and further improve her proficiency in the Korean language.
Emily is excited for the opportunity to work with HRNK and to better understand what it means to work in the fields of international relations and human rights. She hopes to pursue a career in U.S.-Korea relations and North Korean human rights, and to become an expert on North Korea.
