Emily Gibson is an MA student at Indiana University (EALC) in East Asian studies. Her main research interests include security and intelligence of North Korea; the modernization of North Korea and its impact on perspectives within the North Korean civil society; and human rights violations of the North Korean regime. Gibson received a BA from Indiana University and wrote an undergraduate thesis on the North Korean state's and civil society's perspectives on democracy, human rights, and capitalism. Outside of the classroom, she has been an activist for North Korean human rights, serving as Graduate Vice President for Liberty in North Korea at Indiana University. She is the recipient of a FLAS Fellowship.
