Elizabeth Sim is a junior at Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts. Through HRNK, she hopes to serve as a voice for the people of North Korea, as well as to call others to action.
After visiting the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea, watching the faraway buildings of North Korea rising from a myriad of trees, Elizabeth was heartbroken by how difficult it was to reach and help North Koreans. But that was when she realized that a fixed mindset toward North Korea’s situation was precisely what might be slowing down progress toward a free nation.
Elizabeth is currently researching and writing about North Korea’s growing, resilient, and often illegal capitalist markets, as well as about gender-based violence that permeates North Korean society.
