Daniela Santana is currently undertaking a semester at Georgetown University as part of their Semester in Washington Programme. It is her desire to obtain an undergraduate degree in International Relations and Psychology after which she will attend law school. She has a keen interest in human rights, particularly those of refugees, women and children and would like to go on to work with the United Nations where she hopes she can continue to assist nongovernmental organizations and promote human rights.
A member of Georgetown University’s UNICEF and Stop Human Trafficking student associations, she has worked for various nonprofit organizations which assist refugees including the Harrow Refugee Forum and the N’kanda African Woman’s Family Academy. This has provided her with a foundation in event organization, fundraising and marketing.
She was interested in this internship because while she has a keen knowledge of Korea during the Korean War, she was aware that there wasn’t enough discussion about the issues the region currently faces. She is particularly interested in how China can be used as a soft power force in the region along with the difficulties that North Korean women face when they flee the country.
