Ayoung Kang is a senior studying International Relations and minoring in Chinese at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She is from Gwangju, South Korea where the May 18 Democratic Uprising occurred, which inspired the national struggle for democracy in South Korea. Growing up with this heritage, she developed a strong passion to defend human rights of all people. Ayoung worked as a global strategy manager for a non-profit organization called More Good Foundation and experienced the difference a non-profit can make in raising general awareness. She plans to pursue a career as a human rights lawyer advocating for the promotion of human rights in East Asia. Ms. Kang hopes to learn the inner workings of human rights advocacy while interning for HRNK.
