Abbigail Thacker is an undergraduate student at Brigham Young University studying Political Science and International Strategy and Diplomacy. She is passionate about human rights, international relations, nuclear strategy, and law. She has previously researched the possibility of—and a possible U.S. response to—limited nuclear warfare. During her undergraduate studies, Abbigail took a class on international interventions, which developed her interest in state responses to international human rights abuses. She has additionally studied China, its government structure, and human rights conditions in that country. Her interest in North Korea has naturally extended from her research on China. As an intern, Abbigail hopes to broaden her understanding of North Korean human rights issues and contribute to research on what can be done through human rights-based policy to improve current conditions. She also hopes to learn how to be an advocate for people whose voices have been limited by oppressive regimes.
