As they do so, the alliance faces new challenges and opportunities. North Korea continues to advance its nuclear program and develop submarine-launched ballistic missiles. While on the economic front Korea’s potential involvement in the Trans-Pacific Partnership presents new opportunities as the alliance continues to expand into a global partnership.
