Description:
On June 16th, Presidents Barack Obama and Park Geun-hye will hold their fourth meeting. While U.S.-ROK alliance remains as close as ever, the upcoming summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to set the agenda for the remainder of their terms. As they do so, the alliance faces new challenges and opportunities. North Korea continues to advance its nuclear program and develop submarine-launched ballistic missiles. While on the economic front Korea’s potential involvement in the Trans-Pacific Partnership presents new opportunities as the alliance continues to expand into a global partnership.
As the two leaders prepare to meet, KEI will hold for a discussion of the current state of the economic, military, and diplomatic dimensions of the alliance and its prospect for the future.
