At the end of World War II, Korea was divided in two and 60 years later, North and South Korea still couldn’t be further apart. The underdeveloped North suffers from the tyrannical rule of a corrupt, authoritarian government, while the South continues to flourish and is rapidly advancing to become one of the world’s most developed countries. With the Korean population of Massachusetts well over 10,000, it is important to raise local awareness of the issues facing the Korean Peninsula.
Join Dr. Han S. Park, renowned peace-maker and scholar on Korean affairs for a discussion on the gap between the two Koreas. Dr. Park’s peace-making prowess has been refined over the decades as he has been instrumental in realizing former president Jimmy Carter’s visits to Pyongyang in 1994 and 2010 as well as other efforts to alleviate tension on the Korean Peninsula. In 2010, Dr. Park was honored for his approach to global peace-making with the Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Award in recognition of his “extraordinary global leadership through nonviolence and reconciliation.”
