Smaranda Gheorghe

Research Intern

Smaranda Gheorghe is an undergraduate student at the Institute for Asian and African Studies of Humboldt University in Berlin. After her bachelor’s, she is planning to seek a master’s degree in International Affairs and Human Rights.

In her native Romania, she got involved with various local human rights NGOs. Her desire to assist others took her all over the world in countries like India and Tanzania, where she worked on humanitarian projects.

During a visit to the Museum of Comfort Women in Berlin, she developed a deeper interest in East Asian affairs. She then decided to get involved with HRNK to raise awareness of grave human rights violations in North Korea, make people’s voices heard, and encourage change. Smaranda is grateful to be working with dedicated individuals who are making an impact on such a challenging and delicate matter.
