The event will feature Col. Ashton Ormes\, who will give a presentation entitled\, “North Korea and the Mission to Account for America's Missing Korean War Servicemen.” 									  \n \nAshton Ormes is a retired U.S. Army colonel\, a Northeast Asia Foreign Area Officer\, and a former civilian member of the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO).  He first became involved in the mission to account for America’s missing Korean War servicemen\, and initiatives to win North Korean cooperation in this effort\, while serving in the United Nations Command component of the Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC) in Panmunjom\, Korea from 1986 to 1988.  Returning to Panmunjom from 1995 to 1997 as the UNCMAC Secretary\, he participated in negotiations leading to joint US/DPRK operations in North Korea that began in 1996\, ended in 2005\, and recovered the remains of 229 missing men.  From 2000 to 2005\, as the Director of Research and Analysis for DPMO\, he took part in negotiations with North Korean representatives and traveled to North Korea six times to observe remains recovery operations in North and South Pyongan Provinces and in South Hamgyong Province.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Virginia Military Institute\, a Master of Business Administration degree from Pepperdine University\, and is a graduate of both the Republic of Korea Army College and the U.S. Army War College. 									  \n\n 									PROGRAM DETAILS \nReception will begin at 6:30pm\, followed by dinner at 7:00 pm\, and the speaker’s presentation and Q & A session. DESCRIPTION:Dear Colleague: \n 			You are invited to attend a meeting of the Korea Club on Thursday\, November 17\, 2016. The event will feature Ambassador Joseph DeTrani who will give a presentation entitled\, “Recommendations for the Next Administrations' North Korea Policy.” 			​ 			Ambassador Joseph DeTrani is the President of the Daniel Morgan Academy. Prior to joining the Academy\, he served as the president of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) for three years and now serves on their Board of Advisors.\n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmbassador DeTrani was the Senior Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence and the Director of the National Counter Proliferation Center and the Intelligence Community Mission Manager for North Korea.  Prior to joining the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in 2006\, he served at the Department of State as the Special Envoy for Six-Party Talks with North Korea\, with the rank of Ambassador\, and as the U.S. Representative to the Korea Energy Development Organization (KEDO).  \nBefore his service with the Department of State\, Ambassador DeTrani had a distinguished career with the Central Intelligence Agency.  As a member of the Senior Intelligence Service\, his Washington assignments included leadership positions as the Director of East Asia Operations\, Director for European Operations\, Director of the Office of Technical Services\, Director of Public Affairs\, Director of the Crime and Narcotics Center and Executive Assistant to the Director of Central Intelligence William Casey.  Ambassador DeTrani spent a number of years overseas\, primarily in East Asia and China and is fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and proficient in French. He is the recipient of numerous awards\, to include the Donovan Award\, the Distinguished Intelligence Medal and the Commandant’s Award.  \nAmbassador DeTrani was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and is a graduate of New York University (NYU)\, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics\, and attended NYU School of Law and Graduate School of Business Administration.  He received a Certificate in Chinese from the State Department Foreign Language School in Taiwan and attended Harvard’s International Security Program for executives.  \nAmbassador DeTrani a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Institute of Strategic Studies and has published numerous articles dealing with North Korea\, China\, Iran\, Cyber espionage and non-proliferation issues.\n \nPROGRAM DETAILS\nReception will begin at 6:30pm\, followed by dinner at 7:00 pm\, and the speaker’s presentation and Q & A session.
